Zohran Mamdani, the United States politician who was born in Kampala, is New York City’s next mayor.
The democratic socialist, who spent part of his childhood in South Africa, will make history as the city’s first Muslim Leader.
At 34, Mamdani will also be New York City’s youngest mayor in more than a century when he takes office on January 1.

His campaign focused on addressing the City’s high cost if living with promises to lower expenses and make it life more affordable for working people.
Mamdani was born in East African nation Uganda, 34 years ago, then lived in South Africa for two years before moving to New York as a child.
