The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kizito Bonzena, his deputy, Rt. Hon Hamman Adams Ibinlla and 14 other members of the House Monday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bonzina while reading letters from each of the lawmakers at the chamber of the House stated that the lawmakers invoked Section 109 of the Constitution, which permits elected members to defect if there is a division within the political party.
In their letters, the legislators lamented over prolonged leadership crisis rocking the PDP at the national level.
The lawmakers described the situation as one that has plunged the PDP into confusion, making it increasingly difficult for them to remain in the party.
“Unresolved internal conflicts, once seen as manageable, has now undermined the party’s strength and public confidence.
“We consulted our respective constituents before finalizing our decisions to move to the APC”, the lawmakers said.
