Popular Plateau State cleric, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has confirmed that his Facebook account has been deleted.
Dachomo disclosed this to the press on Saturday. When contacted to verify the development, he responded briefly, saying, “It’s true.”
9news Nigeria reports that the incident comes at a time when the cleric has been vocal about what he describes as ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria.
In a widely circulated interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Dachomo said he had conducted over 70 mass burials for victims of attacks in Plateau and neighbouring states.
He also recently appeared before the United States Congress, where he testified about the killings, urging the international community to intervene.
Dachomo’s testimony coincided with comments from US Congressman, Riley Moore, who said Nigeria must meet two conditions before securing a military partnership with the United States.
Moore insisted that the Nigerian government must take concrete steps to stop attacks on Christian communities and disarm militant groups operating across the Middle Belt.
The account deletion also follows heightened diplomatic tension after US President, Donald Trump, returned Nigeria to the ‘Country of Particular Concern’ list.
While Washington cited systematic killings, the Nigerian government dismissed the statistics as “faulty” and maintained that it is taking significant steps to address insecurity.
Officials recently travelled to Washington to clarify Nigeria’s position and push back against accusations of religious persecution.
