The United States has delivered essential military supplies to Nigeria in Abuja as part of ongoing security cooperation between both countries.
According to the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), U.S. forces recently handed over the supplies to Nigerian security authorities to support the country’s efforts in combating terrorism and addressing other security challenges.
While details of the equipment and quantities were not disclosed, the command described the delivery as “critical” to Nigeria’s ongoing operations.
The move highlights Washington’s renewed commitment to strengthening its security partnership with Abuja amid Nigeria’s intensified fight against insurgent groups, including Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and other armed factions operating across parts of the country.
AFRICOM noted that the support is part of broader bilateral cooperation focused on capacity building, intelligence sharing, and logistical assistance, rather than the deployment of U.S. combat troops on Nigerian soil.
Nigeria has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, ranging from insurgency in the North East to banditry and kidnapping across several regions.
The delivery of U.S. military supplies comes at a time when the Nigerian government has pledged to ramp up efforts to restore stability and protect civilian populations from terrorism and banditry.
Officials from both countries have repeatedly emphasized the importance of international partnerships in addressing transnational security threats, particularly those linked to terrorism and organized crime.
