A First Bank customer, Ojo Eghosa Kingsley, has been convicted by an Edo State High Court for refusing to refund N1. 5 billion mistakenly credited to his account.
Kingsley was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing and fraudulent conversation.
Justice W. I Aziegbemhin sentenced him to one year imprisonment over a N5 million fine.
The court also ordered him to refund N272.25 million, being the outstanding balance.
The EFCC had earlier recover N1. 1 billion from his account and those of his relatives.
Kingsley signed an undertaking to maintain good behavior upon fulfilling the court’s conditions.
