A devastating road accident along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Highway in Yobe State has claimed the lives of five members of the same family.
The fatal incident, which occurred on Wednesday, March 25, involved residents of Potiskum Local Government Area and has left the community in deep sorrow.
Confirming the tragedy, a relative of the victims, Dahiru Musa Talba, revealed in a Facebook post that five family members lost their lives, while three others sustained serious injuries.
The injured victims were immediately taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where they are currently receiving medical attention.
The Yobe State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim, also confirmed the incident, stating that five people died while others were injured. He added that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
“The victims are from the same family. Five lost their lives, while others suffered varying degrees of injuries”, he said.
Those who died were identified as Hajjagana Dahiru Zayi, lbrahim Dahiru Zayi, Muhammad Dahiru Zayi, Hauwa Dahiru Zayi, and other relative.
Reacting to the tragedy, Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family, particularly the father of the deceased, Alhaji Muhammad Dahiru Zayi.
In a statement issued by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Muhammad, the Governor described the incident as shocking, painful, and deeply saddening.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the family the strength and patience to endure the tragic loss.
