LAGOS (9News Nigeria) — Zenith Bank Plc has confirmed that it is investigating an incident involving unauthorized access to certain customers’ static data, while assuring customers that the breach did not compromise financial information or affect the security of its banking platforms.

In a notice issued to customers, the bank disclosed that the incident forms part of a wider global cyberattack that has targeted multiple international organizations across different sectors, suggesting that the breach was not isolated to the Nigerian financial institution alone.

According to the bank, its cybersecurity systems detected the unauthorized access, prompting the immediate activation of its incident response protocols, cybersecurity measures, and remediation efforts aimed at containing the incident and protecting customer information.

Zenith Bank emphasized that its core banking operations, digital banking platforms, and other financial services remain secure and fully operational despite the cyber incident.

The bank further clarified that the compromised information relates only to customers’ static data and has no connection to sensitive financial information, transaction records, account balances, or banking credentials.

As part of its advisory, Zenith Bank urged customers to exercise heightened caution against phishing attempts, warning that cybercriminals may attempt to exploit the situation through fraudulent emails, text messages, or telephone calls.

Zenith Bank reiterated its commitment to protecting customer information and maintaining the integrity of its digital infrastructure, assuring customers that efforts to investigate the incident and strengthen security measures are ongoing.

Customers seeking further clarification were advised to contact the bank through Zenith Direct using its official customer service channels.

The incident comes amid a growing wave of sophisticated cyberattacks affecting financial institutions, businesses, and government agencies globally, underscoring the increasing cybersecurity risks facing organizations entrusted with large volumes of customer data.

The Letter from Zenith Bank to customers states:
