Businessman Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star Davido, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) spent about N60 billion on vote-buying during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke made the allegation in Osogbo, the state capital, while reacting to the victory of his brother, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He also claimed that voters in some parts of the state were allegedly offered up to N50,000 for a single vote.
According to him, reports of the alleged financial inducements prompted him to pray for his brother’s victory.
Deji said he asked God to allow voters to collect whatever money they were offered but still vote for Ademola Adeleke.
He recalled going into his room, kneeling down and praying after hearing about the alleged spending on election day.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ademola Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes.
His APC challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.
Deji attributed his brother’s victory to what he described as divine intervention despite the alleged financial inducements.
However, the claims that the APC spent N60 billion and offered voters N50,000 each remain allegations. No independent evidence was provided in the report to substantiate the figures.
