Jos- — Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has ordered the immediate stoppage of activities by a group reportedly operating a Hisbah in parts of Jos North Local Government Area, declaring its operations illegal and unauthorised.
Governor Mutfwang directed security agencies to identify and investigate those involved in alleged intimidation, harassment, extortion and the imposition of authorised rules on residents.
He warned that anyone found promoting, sponsoring, adding or participating in such activities would face arrest and prosecution where evidence of wrongdoing is established.
Mutfwang stressed that Plateau State has one Constitution, one legal system and one legitimate authority, saying no individual or group has the right to operate as parallel authority or enforce ruled outside the law.
He also clarified that the directive is not targeted at any religion, ethnic group or community, but is focused solely on the ensuring lawful conduct and protecting residents from unlawful coercion.
The state government said security agencies have been instructed to enforce the order and maintain law and order in the affected areas.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting residents preserving peaceful coexistence and upholding the rule of law.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday August 30, 2026 by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere in Jos.
