Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, Manasseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the alleged killing of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, in Kaduna.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, September 11, 2026, by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan.
According to the police, the incident was reported on September 5, 2026, at about 7:00a.m. after the lifeless body of Rebecca was discovered along Mai Angwa Street, Romi Outstation with cotton wool nostrils.
Police detectives from the Romi Outstation reportedly rushed the woman to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Preliminary investigation, according to the police, showed that Jatau was the last person to call the deceased and allegedly invited her to meet him at a joint in Romi, Kaduna.
The suspect was later traced and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.
The police said the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to having a fight with the deceased in his room over a phone call from another woman, which allegedly resulted in her death.
He also reportedly confessed to dumping the deceased’s body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal the alleged crime.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues. The police said he would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
