The Federal Government has announced plans to provide students in public educational institutions with up to 100MB of sponsored data daily.
The programme is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2026.
The initiative, being implemented through the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, is designed to expand students’ access to online educational resources and support digital learning across the country.
Eligible students under the programme, will receive sponsored connectivity for approved educational websites and platforms, including digital libraries, learning-management systems, and other government-approved learning resources.
The initiative is expected to initially benefit students in public senior secondary schools and public tertiary institutions, with the government targeting about five million students.
The government has also disclosed that telecommunications operators, including MTN, Airtel and Globacom, are participating in the programme to facilitate access to the sponsored educational services.
However, the 100MB daily allocation is not unrestricted free internet data.
It is intended specifically for accessing approved educational content and platforms covered by the programme.
The Federal Government said the initiative forms part of its efforts to promote digital inclusion by improving access to educational resources.
