ANAMBRA- The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old lady, Nwachukwu Chidubem Blessing, for allegedly staging her own kidnap to defraud her family of N3 million.
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, following credible intelligence in the course of investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.
Speaking through a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the lady was reported to have been abducted along the Onitsha–Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026.
Ikenga said despite the payment of N3 million ransom by her family, the supposed abductors refused to release her, a development that prompted the police to intensify investigation.
”Following sustained intelligence gathering and investigative efforts, police operatives, in the afternoon of 18th September 2026, traced and located the alleged victim in a room in Asaba, Delta State, where she was recovered,” the statement said.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the lady allegedly conspired with a female associate identified simply as Onyinye, whose other names are yet to be established, and a male accomplice currently at large, to stage her own abduction in order to obtain money from her family.
The Command said the suspect is currently in custody and is assisting operatives with useful information to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend her alleged accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be intensified to ensure all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
The Command warned members of the public, particularly youths, against engaging in self-kidnap and other forms of fraud, noting that such acts are criminal and punishable under the law.
Ikenga added that further developments on the case would be communicated as investigation progresses.
