Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has denied being a member of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s policy team for the 2027 presidential election.
Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name included in a statement issued by the Atiku Abubakar and African Democratic Congress (ADC) campaign team.
In a statement, he stressed that he was neither consulted nor asked for consent before his name was published as a member of the policy team.
“For the record, I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” he said.
Moghalu further clarified that he is not a member of Atiku’s policy team, either formally or informally.
He also said he has stayed away from partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022 and has maintained a non-partisan position on national affairs.
“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he stated.
According to the former CBN deputy governor, his current engagements are focused on public policy and geopolitical strategy.
He identified himself as President of IGETAfrica, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy, as well as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies LLC, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
Moghalu said his commitment to Nigeria’s development does not require him to align with any political party.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment,” he said.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he added.
The clarification comes amid preparations for the 2027 presidential election, in which Atiku is associated with the ADC political coalition.
Moghalu, who contested Nigeria’s 2019 presidential election, served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria between 2009 and 2014.
