2027 presidential candidate and human rights activist, Omoleye Sowore, has condemned the reported arrest arraignment and detention of five residents of Borno State over their alleged use of clothing bearing the inscription “Tinubu Must Go”
Sowore alleged that the arrests were politically motivated and accused the Borno State Government, led by Governor Babagana Zulum, of engineering the detention with the assistance of the Nigerian Police.
The five detained citizens were identified as Ba’ana Crema, Mustapha Abba, Abacha Muhammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio and Abdulhamid Mohammed.
According to Sowore, the five were subsequently arraigned before a magistrate and remanded in prison. According to Sowore, the five were subsequently arraigned before a magistrate and demanded in prison.
He described the arrests and detention as unlawful, humiliating and an infringement on the citizens’ right to freely express their political views.
Sowore called for the immediate withdrawal of charges and release all five detainees.
“Political opposition is not a crime. Nigerians must never be imprisoned simply for opposing those in power”.
