A group of political leaders and supporters of the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in Emohua Local Government Area has rejected the political realignment known as the Rainbow Coalition, associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
The group, led by former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Chief David Omereji, made its position known at a meeting convened by Omereji, where several political stakeholders and supporters of Governor Fubara gathered to deliberate on recent political developments in the state.
At the meeting, the leaders reportedly resolved to maintain their loyalty and support for Governor Fubara, while distancing themselves from the Rainbow Coalition.
The development is significant as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with various political actors in Rivers State reassessing their alliances and positions.
Chief Omereji, while speaking at the meeting, maintained that his political group and supporters remain firmly behind Governor Fubara and would not identify with the Rainbow Coalition.
According to him, their loyalty to the governor remains strong, stressing that they would continue to support his administration and political direction.
The former Emohua caretaker chairman and his supporters also dismissed any suggestion that they were prepared to abandon the governor for another political platform.
Among the prominent personalities reportedly present at the meeting were Chief Charles Beke; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barrister Sunny Ewule; Hon. Elder Chinedu Tasie; Chief Glory Emeh; Hon. Isaac Okakwu Ogweru Ogweru; and Chief Lordmizar Okpaka. alongside several other political stakeholders and supporters from Emohua.
The gathering came against the backdrop of renewed political activity in Rivers State, particularly following the emergence of the Rainbow Coalition, which has been associated with former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Wike and his political allies have in recent times spoken strongly about political freedom and the need for party members and political actors to resist what they perceive as excessive control by individuals.
The FCT Minister has also been quoted as saying that people cannot remain slaves to one individual indefinitely, remarks that have generated further political debate in Rivers State.
However, the Emohua group, led by Omereji, appears to have taken a different position, choosing to remain aligned with Governor Fubara.
The leaders reportedly emphasised that their decision was based on their continued confidence in the governor and their commitment to his leadership.
Omereji’s declaration effectively draws a political line between the group and the Rainbow Coalition, with the former caretaker chairman making it clear that his supporters will continue to identify with Fubara rather than the emerging coalition.
The development may further deepen the ongoing political realignments in Rivers State, where supporters of Governor Fubara and political loyalists of Wike have continued to occupy different sides of the state’s increasingly active political landscape.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the latest declaration from Emohua is expected to attract attention, particularly because of the prominence of the political figures involved and the strategic importance of Emohua in Rivers State politics.
For Omereji and the other leaders at the meeting, however, the message was clear: their political loyalty remains with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and they have rejected membership or association with the Rainbow Coalition led by Wike.
