Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Senator Hope Uzodimma met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the President’s private Lagos residence.
Uzodimma said the meeting held on Sunday, was convened to brief Tinubu on developments in the country during the President’s working leave and update him on the activities of the Progressive Governors Forum.
Speaking after the meeting, the governor described the discussion as a “quality conversation”, saying the governors had continued working while the President was away.
“The President just returned from his leave. While he was away, we were working. It is fair to brief him on what happened and the efforts of the Progressive Governors,” Uzodimma said.
He said discussions also focused on the governors’ efforts to communicate the Federal Government’s policies and reforms to Nigerians and ensure that their benefits translate into tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.
According to Uzodimma, the reform agenda has moved beyond implementation and public communication to ensuring that Nigerians directly feel its impact.
He cited improved revenue available to state governments, saying many states now have greater capacity to pay salaries and execute development projects.
The Imo governor also pointed to the Federal Government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative, urging transport operators to reflect the savings from lower operating costs in the fares charged to commuters.
He said the objective was to ensure that the benefits of the reforms were passed on to ordinary Nigerians.
Uzodinma thanked President Tinubu for the reforms and assured that the governors would continue working to ensure that Nigerians feel their impact.
