The President-General of Oron Union, Sir Esang Nsa Bassey KJW, is set to receive the prestigious chieftaincy title of Otu Ekúng Ubodung from Afaha Ubodung Clan in Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The traditional conferment ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Primary School Field, Okosi, beginning at 10 a.m.
The announcement was contained in a press release signed by Prince Edenseting, PhD, Publicity Secretary of Oron Union, inviting Oro sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora to attend the ceremony.
According to the union, Otu Ekúng Ubodung is recognised as the highest chieftaincy title in Afaha Ubodung Clan, making the event a significant occasion for the clan and the wider Oro community.
The conferment is expected to bring together traditional leaders, community stakeholders, political figures, cultural representatives and friends of the Oro Nation to celebrate the union leader.
Oron Union said its President-General looks forward to welcoming Oro people and other guests to Okosi for the historic occasion.
The event also provides an opportunity to celebrate Oro’s traditional institutions and cultural heritage, which remain important to community identity and unity.
Founded in 1925, Oron Union serves as a platform for promoting the collective interests of the Oro people, preserving their cultural heritage and advancing development across their communities in Akwa Ibom State and the diaspora.
The Oro Nation comprises five local government areas: Oron, Urue Offong/Oruko, Okobo, Mbo and Udung Uko. Its traditional structure includes nine ancestral clans, among them Afaha Ubodung.
The union has therefore called on Oro people worldwide to participate in the ceremony and join Afaha Ubodung in honouring Sir Esang Nsa Bassey.
