The former theater commander, Northeast Operations Hadin Kai, (OPHK) Major General Waidi Shaibu has expressed optimism and shower praises on his successor Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, whom he believes will bring the needed energy, courage, determination and professionalism in the fight against terrorism in the northeast region.
Gen. Shaibu said this in his farewell address on Monday during the handing over ceremony at the headquarters, Theatre Command, Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri.
According to a statement by the force spokesman, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the outgoing commander described Gen. Abubakar as ‘a veteran of the theater’ while also calling on troops under the command to extend the same support, corporation and loyalty he enjoyed during his tenure to the new commander.

He also expressed gratitude to the officers and personnel for their cooperation during his tenure.
Recalling his experiences during the period, he noted that the journey was marked by numerous operations in terrorists’ enclaves.
Gen. Shaibu also emphasised the importance of continuing to fight with dedication and professionalism to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The new commander is an experienced officer who served in several national and international commands and operations in various capacities over the years.
He previously served as Commander Sector 3 OPHK and Multi National Joint Task Force in Mungono.
Among other roles, he also served as the General Officer Commanding 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPHK Maiduguri, and General Officer Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN.
Before his latest appointment, he was the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies at the National Defence College, Abuja.

As the 15th Theatre Commander, OPHK, Gen. Abubakar is now saddled with the responsibility of confronting the recent resurgence of terrorism activities in the northeast region, especially in Borno communities.
He is also expected to bring the needed moral to the force, to enable victory for the military in the fight against terrorism in the region.
