Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has settled for Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo as the Deputy Governor nominee.
To this end, the Governor has transmitted Garo’s name to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor.
This was contained in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Mohammed on Wednesday. according to the statement, “The nomination is inline with Section 19 (3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the Governor to nominate a Deputy Governor where a vacancy exists.
“The position became vacant following the voluntary resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026”.
He said, following a wide consultations with stakeholders, the Governor has requested the assembly to grant the necessary approval for Garo’s nomination.
Sule Garo, 48, is a renowned political administrator with over two decades of service with both elective and appointed positions. He has served as State Organizing Secretary of his party, Special Adviser to Kano State Governor and elected Kano Local Government Chairman.
Garo also served as Chairman of ALGON Kano, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2023 general election.
The nominee is the son-in-law of , Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice-president of Nigeria.
