Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja took to the streets to protest, demanding the immediate removal of the FCT Minister, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike.
The angry residents accused the minister of engaging in land grabbing, implementing policies that threaten to impoverish community members in the Federal Capital City.
The protest drew the attention of human rights activists, who joined in the demonstration to condemn Wike’s administration style and leadership.
Protesters urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and halt Wike’s “wicked policies,” which they claim have displaced hundreds from their homes. They are calling for the former governor of Rivers State to be removed from his ministerial position.
Lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, who participated in the protest, expressed concern, saying, “They are dismayed and worried that efforts to seize this land are intensifying and relentless. As previously stated, we appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urge the FCT Minister to return the lands to the poor. These lands rightfully belong to them. If more land is needed for development, they should target areas like Asokoro, Maitama Extension, and Guzape instead of taking from the poor, as this will only increase insecurity in the country.”
Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) also voiced his concerns, stating, “In this difficult economic climate, with rising dollar rates and food prices, there is no provision for displaced individuals to find shelter. This is outrageous, unjust, and will lead to significant insecurity.”
