A legally married man in Adamawa State has been killed by another man who has confessed to have been in a long adulterous relationship with the deceased wife.
Thirty-five-old Ishaya Markus was apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command for fatally stabbing the deceased, Franchise Albert.
Açcording to sources the confrontation that led to Albert:s dead occurred on Sunday in Fufore local government area of the state, where Franchise and his 20-year-old wife, Libiyatu, lived.
Sources firmiliar with the couple said they had been having an affair with Markus on several occasions.
Albert was said to have warned both the wife and the suspect to stop seeing each other but they did not heard to his warning, rather they ignored and keep having an illicit affair with each other.
Libiyatu, in her confessionsl statement to the police said:
“My husband had warned us when he got the wind of what we were doing.
“He and I fought over the issue as a result of which I left for my parents’ house.
“Ishaya (Markus) followed and took me into the bush and had an affair with me on five occasions”.
She said even after she later resolved her issues with her husband and he asked her to return to her matrimonial home, Markus kept turning up for her until the deadly fight that broke out between him and her husband.
Markus, on his part, admitted to have had an affairs with the wife of the late Albert on several occasions, killing him in a fight.
He said: “On that faithful day, I went to the community where the deceased and his wife live. I went there to take her out again, but I did not meet her.
“While I was returning home I met the deceased and he asked me whether I had gone to see his wife again.
“A fight ensued in the course of the argument, he pulled out his knife and I pulled out mine and engaged in a bloody fight.
“He cut me in my hand and neck while I stabbed him in his stomach two times and by the neck, leading to his death’.
The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, Dankomo Morris, had ordered full investigation into the matter.
He assured that proper prosecution of the suspect would follow to get to the logical end of matter.
