Former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has no plans to head back to Europe amid the relegation battle facing his current club, Kano Pillars.
Ahmed Musa, 31, has been linked with a switch to Kazakhstani club FC Kaysar, who recently signed his former international teammate Victor Moses. But sources close to Musa insist he is staying put.
The ex-Leicester City attacker is said to be fully committed to reviving Kano Pillars, where he now combines playing duties with the role of General Manager.
The Sai Masu are locked in a relegation battle in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), and Musa is determined to steer the club away from danger and restore its past dominance.
Musa’s last stint in Europe was with Turkish Super Lig side Sivasspor. Since returning home, he has taken on greater responsibility at Pillars, both on and off the pitch.
Meanwhile, Bayelsa United head coach Meremu Okara has set his sights on a top-nine finish in the NPFL this season.
The Prosperity Boys climbed to 14th after edging South South rivals Rivers United 1-0 on Sunday. The win offered breathing space, but they remain just one point above the relegation zone.
Okara believes his side can push into the top half before the campaign wraps up.
“I would like the team to end the season among the top nine, I mean above 10th position, say from ninth going up the ladder. That’s what we’re pursuing,” Okara stated after the game against Rivers United.
