The scarcity and soaring cost of aviation fuel in Nigeria may force the local airlines such as Air peace, Ibom Air, Dana Air and others to stop operations in 3 days, 9News Nigeria learnt.
According to the Air peace CEO/ Chairman, Allen Onyema, the perennial fuel scarcity in Nigeria portends danger for the country’s aviation sector.
9news Nigeria reports that Onyema said the deepening fuel crisis could cripple the operations of airline companies in Nigeria, leading to a complete shut down of aviation activities in the country and concomitant truncation of travellers itinerary.
To resolve the problem, Nigerian airline operators have asked the federal government to grant them operational licenses that will enable them to import fuel.
‘We have only three more days, all airlines in Nigeria will shut down. We are not threatening this country, it is a fact”, Onyema said.
The Airpeace boss is currently speaking at a meeting of oil marketers and Airline operators at the National Assembly.
Also in attendance at the meeting is the NNPC CEO, Mele Kyari and other stakeholders.
”I have the mandate of all airlines to demand that Airlines begin importation of fuel, if we can buy planes of millions of dollars, we can also import fuel ourselves. Let NNPC give Airlines licenses, we want to import ourselves, Onyema insisted.
