Senegalese-American singer, Akon, has disclosed his plan to have a futuristic city in Senegal named after him —Akon City.
The singer made this known while speaking at a conference Monday, September 1, 2020.
According to him the idea behind Akon City is facilitated by the need to welcome Africans in diaspora to a “home back home”.
The singer recounted his growing-up days in America, saying that he ran into a lot of Black Americans who had no idea about their culture, thus the need to build a city that would motivate people about their homes.
In his words:
“So I wanted to build a city or a project like this that will give them the motivation to know that there is a home back home”.
The city has a futuristic design done by architect Hussein Bakri. It is said to make provisions for hospitals, hotels, a university, movie studios and more.
Akon further noted to Bakri that he would love the building to look like African sculptures made in African villages.
