Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has once again distinguished itself on the national stage after receiving two major awards from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during the 2026 Policy Meeting held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, Jabi, Abuja.
The university clinched a ₦25 million award for securing the 1st Position in Gender Balance Admission for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. AKSU also emerged as the Second Runner-up Institution in the Overall Category of the Mega National Tertiary Admissions Performance (NATAP) Merit Award, 6th Edition.
The awards were presented to the Vice-Chancellor of AKSU, Prof. OtoAbasi Akpan, by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmed, the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Director of Admissions, JAMB, Mr. Mohammed Babajide Ahmed, other top JAMB officials, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayomi Odusote.
The high-profile policy meeting, chaired by the Minister of Education, attracted key stakeholders across Nigeria’s education sector, including the Spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, representatives of the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Provosts, Registrars, and Admission Officers from tertiary institutions across the country.
The recognition further reinforces AKSU’s growing reputation for excellence, inclusiveness, and outstanding performance in tertiary admissions administration in Nigeria.
