China has warned against external interference in Nigeria’s international affairs after U.S President Donald Trump threatened possible military action v over allegedly persecution of Christians.
The statement came in response to Trump’s justifications for response to Trump’s designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over claims of religious persecution.
Addressing a Press Conference on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry, said China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other other countries internal affairs and threatening other countries with sanctions and force.

Ning was answering a question on Trump’s threat of military action in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, “China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading it’s people on the development path suited to its national conditions.
“China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries with sanctions and force”, Ning said.
Bayo Onanuga, spokesman to Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, shared China’s reaction on his X handle on Tuesday. Onanuga had proven severally, on behalf of the Presidency denying the religious discrimination and persecution of any kind of Nigeria.
