While other children of his age are busy playing with toys and building sand castles, one child, nine years old is getting ready to bag his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
And while other 9 years olds in school are learning basic addition rules and learning to spell, another child was graduating university and preparing to embark on a PhD program…while also studying “a bit of medicine.”
Laurent Simons, a child prodigy from Belgium with an IQ of 145, is making headlines for his incredible accomplishments at only nine. A student in electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology, Simons has been described as “simply extraordinary” by professors and peers alike.
“They noticed something very special about Laurent,” said mom Lydia Simons to CNN. “They told us he is like a sponge,” echoed his father, Alexander.
Here’s another shocker: according to CNN, the staff at Eindhoven say Laurent is “simply extraordinary.” Go figure.
Once he acquires his college degree, Simons says he plans to continue his higher educational endeavors by studying for his PhD in electrical engineering… while also pursuing a possible degree in medicine.
His parents, Lydia and Alexander Simons, said they thought Laurent’s grandparents were exaggerating when they said he had a gift, but his teachers soon concurred.
“They noticed something very special about Laurent,” said Lydia.
Laurent was given test after test as teachers tried to work out the extent of his talents. “They told us he is like a sponge,” said Alexander.
Sjoerd Hulshof, education director of the TUE bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, said about the boy, “Laurent is the fastest student we have ever had here.”
HE’S NINE.
Simon’s father says he hasn’t decided at which university Laurent will seek his PhD, but much like a sports prodigy here in America, universities are already making their play to land him (except he is actually allowed to get paid for his services should he so desire).
In his spare time when he isn’t being a goddamn genius, Laurent says he likes to play with his dog Sammy and, of course, do things on his phone.
As for what the nine-year-old will do with his unique intelligence, he already has that figured out he says. He wants to develop artificial organs.
