In 1993, President Bill Clinton launched “Operation Gothic Serpent” to capture this Somalian warlord, Mohammed Farah Aidid. At the time, the population of Somalia was less than 7 million. This resulted in the Battle of Mogadishu, the bloodiest for the US since Vietnam. Aidid made mincemeat of the American Black Hawk helicopters, forcing US troops to flee Somalia.
President Clinton later described the mission as a “mistake.” From Vietnam to Somalia, and from Libya, Iraq and to Afghanistan, the US has not been known to achieve her goals. Well, apart from the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.
Americans should warn President Donald Trump that Nigeria is more complicated than he thinks. In fact, Nigeria, a country of more than 200 million people and over 300 spoken languages, is more complicated than Vietnam, Libya, Somalia,
Afghanistan, and Iraq combined. Nigeria is one of the few countries where couples practice different religions, and siblings observe different faiths. President Bola Tinubu is a Muslim. His wife is a Christian Pastor. Does President Trump plan on coming to liberate Pastor Oluremi Tinubu from her Muslim husband?.
As Nigerians, we are still trying to figure out our country. Obviously, King Donald Trump has a lot on his plate. He shouldn’t add Nigeria. He should take his brainwave elsewhere!.
