Former APGA Secretary General and current APC chieftain in Anambra State, Mr. William Obiorah, has sharply criticized the administration of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
In a recent interview in Abuja, Obiorah criticised the Soludo-led government for misusing the Agunechemba security outfit, alleging that it operates as a political enforcement agency rather than a genuine security force aimed at protecting the citizens of Anambra State.
Obiorah’s criticisms center on what he describes as the administration’s failure to ensure the safety and security of the populace. Responding to 9News Nigeria correspondent’s question on the Anambra state governor’s performance, Mr William Obiorah stated that while Soludo has made some strides in infrastructure development, particularly in road construction, the overarching issue of insecurity has overshadowed these achievements.
He said, “The administration of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the executive governor of Anambra State can be judged to be fair, but he failed woefully in the area of security.” Mr William Obiora also questioned why Governor Soludo had to wait until the third year of his tenure before realizing that there were devastating security challenges in the state.
“You know the main purpose of government is to provide the security of lives and properties of the state. Whoever is a governor and has failed in that area, appears to have failed in every other area, because in other areas where you have felt you have made significant achievements, lack of security would have eroded the entire effort you may have made in other areas of your administration.”
“So one can now say that Soludo has performed abysmally low, we can score him very low in administration. And we believe we Anambrarians believe that it’s high time we change the government.”

Obiorah expressed his belief that the time has come for a change in governance, asserting that the APC is poised to take over the governorship of Anambra State in the upcoming elections scheduled for November. “We are poised, we the politicians in the state, in changing the government. I expect that by November, APC will take over the governorship of Anambra State,” he declared.
While acknowledging some of the government’s efforts in infrastructure, Obiorah’s focus remains on the pressing need for improved security measures to protect the lives and properties of Anambra citizens.
“He may have executed one project or the other, yes good, in the areas of road construction, we have seen his strength there, but I can tell you also as I have said earlier, that those things you think that are his achievement supposed to be achievements if he had added security into it but he failed thereby making nonsense of those areas you think that he had done well.”
“Soludo has to go,” Mr Williams Obiorah remarked in conclusion.
In a broader context, Obiorah’s comments resonate with the sentiments of many Anambra residents who are increasingly concerned about their safety and the effectiveness of the current administration’s security measures. He called for a leadership that prioritizes justice, fairness, and the rule of law, emphasizing that security should serve all citizens equally and not be wielded as a tool of political oppression.
In response to these criticisms, supporters of Governor Soludo have defended the administration’s actions. They argue that the establishment of the Agunechemba security outfit is a proactive measure to address the state’s security issues. The Anambra State House of Assembly has also commended the creation of Agunechemba, describing it as a comprehensive framework designed to combat insecurity and restore confidence in the state’s safety mechanisms.
