ONITSHA—Senator Andy Uba’s kinsmen yesterday started the process of recalling him from the upper chamber of the National Assembly for allegedly failing to provide democracy dividend to them for six years that he has been there.
The kinsmen comprising youths, students unions, trade unions, community based leaders, elder statesmen, women leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers and artisans under the aegis of Dynamic Youth Organization of Nigeria in a 9-paragraph communique signed by Alex Osaka, Egwuatu Samuel and Obi Egbeji state chairman, state secretary and national organizing secretary respectively said they were forced to start the process of recall of their representative from the national assembly for not carrying them along since they gave him their mandate.
“Senator Andy Uba’s representation at the national assembly for the past six years has never been in the interest of the electorate that voted for him. Rather, it has been a case of an individual gain for himself, his family members and friends”.
But in a swift reaction, Senator Uba, who spoke through his media adviser, Mr Uchem Obi said the association has no such power to recall the senator whom he said had given empowerment to the people of Anambra south senatorial zone over the years.
He said: “It is a fact that constituency project funds are not given to the legislators to execute projects, hence their arguments are baseless and unfounded.
“Senator Uba is not the governor of Anambra state and cannot be blamed for not executing projects. He is a lawmaker and represents only seven out of the 21 local government areas that make up the entire state”.
He added, “ In those local government areas, we have over 100 communities and Andy Uba has given democracy dividend to them since the past seven years he was there.”
Obi described the association as one of the political hawks who usually come out whenever there was election in the state”
