The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has denied allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, challenging African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Timi Frank to provide evidence.
The council described the allegation as grave and urged security agencies to invite Frank for questioning to substantiate his claims.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, insisted that neither President Bola Tinubu nor the APC campaign council was involved in any plot to assassinate Atiku or any opposition figure.
Alake also dismissed claims that security personnel attached to the former vice president had been withdrawn, insisting that Atiku remained protected by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).
He said Tinubu had directed security agencies to strengthen protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, Atiku enjoys two levels of state-funded security protection as a former vice president, with additional measures introduced in his capacity as a presidential candidate.
The APC council accused Frank of making inflammatory allegations for political attention, describing his claims as an attempt to heighten political tension.
It also defended Tinubu’s democratic credentials, noting that he played a prominent role in opposition politics before the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.
The council urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to exercise restraint and avoid spreading unsubstantiated allegations that could threaten peace and stability.
It called for political competition ahead of the 2027 elections to remain peaceful, lawful and focused on issues affecting Nigerians rather than personal attacks and claims capable of heating up the polity.
