A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State and an illustrious son of Ikeduru LGA, Owerri Senatorial District, Dr. Uzoma Obiyo has, in strong terms, refuted the claims made by Chief Charles Amadi also known as Charvon. Chief Amadi, it was gathered told those who cares to listen that he is the leader of Owerri zone and by extension, that of Ikeduru LGA of Imo State.
Addressing newsmen in his country home, Ugiri-Ike Nneise, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State,9News Nigeria gathered “leadership is not contestable, rather, it is earned appropriately” Dr. Obiyo did not hide his feelings against the claim made by Charvon.
He frowned at such manner of usurping of leadership by Chief Charles Amadi.
Outlining the qualities of a leader, Dr. Obiyo went ahead to say, “a good leader must be a team player. Leaders who work effectively never say ‘I’, and that is because they have trained themselves never to say ‘I’.
Good leaders don’t think ‘I’, they think ‘we’, they think ‘team’. Politics is like a game which requires team work to win. A good leader should know that it is his/her duty to make the team function optimally. A good leader is one who accepts responsibility and do not sidestep it, but ‘we’ gets the credit. This is what creates trust, which enables the leader to get the task done”.
Dr. Obiyo called on the public to disregard such claims and reiterated that “Chief Charles Amadi cannot be seen as the face of Owerri zone and Ikeduru as he is not in tune with critical stakeholders and masses he claims to lead.
Chief Amadi cannot led a zone and LGA that parades tested and trusted APC leaders. No one claims leadership, it is earned.
Charvon does not possess the attributes of a good leader”.
In the words of Dr Obiyo, “a leader must be humble. The face of a good leader should not repel rather, attract other leaders and supporters to the fold.
A leader must have tact with detailed planning and ready to build bridges across other divides. Chief Amadi should make public the list of notable leaders in the zone who are in support of his acclaimed leadership”.
Dr. Uzoma Obiyo, while summarising his address suggested a way forward in resolving the leadership bickerings in Owerri zone.
In his words, “we worked very hard for the enthronement of present administration in the state and won’t sit back to watch a gatecrasher bring to disrepute all our efforts. As a person, my utmost interest is to ensure the success of my friend, Senator Hope Uzodinma and the good of my people. Anyone having personal ambition should subsume such interest for the overall wellbeing of the people of Owerri Zone.
I am of the view that His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma should as a matter of urgent importance and for a result oriented leadership in the zone, direct for an assemblage of high studded leadership to form the zonal caucus of APC in the state. I humbly suggest the nomination of at least, five leaders from each of the nine Local Government Areas of the zone as members of the caucus, while elected and senior appointees of the present government are statutory members. This framework when considered will showcase an all inclusive leadership that will resolve any other leadership squabble in the zone.
The primary duty of this zonal apex caucus is to collectively deliberate and take favourable decisions with particular reference to ensuring a successful second term bid of Senator Hope Uzodinma and for the overall interest of APC in the zone”. Dr. Obiyo used the opportunity to plead with His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Executive Governor of Imo State to look into his prayers and to also, call Chief Charles Amadi aka Charvon to order before things gets out of hand in Owerri Zone.
Dr. Uzoma Obiyo, founder and President of Samuel-Mary & Dame Emily Obiyo Foundation used the occasion to felicitate with the people of Owerri zone and Imo State at large as they mark the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ which brought salvation to mankind.
