The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.
According to family sources Mama Lydia passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), after a brief illness, aged 83.
In a condolence statement signed by the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamayi, the APC described her death as not only a personal loss to Professor Yilwatda but also to entire APC family in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
“The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State received with shock the sad news of the death of the mother of its National Chairman, Mama Lydia Yilwatda.
“There is no doubt the late Mama’s death is painful and decay to the Yilwatdas because she died at the time her motherly advice and prayers were most needed, particularly by the National Chairman”, the statement stated.
Fondly remembered as a devoted Christian, Mama Lydia was a prominent figure in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), where she played active role in women’s fellowship.
Alongside her late husband, Reverend Toma Goshwe Yilwatda, she was instrumental in advancing the growth of the church in Yobe, Bauchi, Borno and Plateau States.
The APC praised her legacy of service, faith, and commitment to community development, noting that her life’s impact is evident in the accomplishments of her children and the many lives she touched.
“Surely, her demise is a great loss to the church, the women’s fellowship, and Plateau State as a whole. While sharing with Professor Yilwatda in this moment of of grief, the party prays God to grant the late Mama’s soul eternal rest”, the statement added.
Mama Lydia is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grand children.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
