The senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Soji Akanbi, has stated that the impeachment of Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, is no longer feasible.
The lawmaker, who represents Oyo South on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the
Red Chamber, stated this in an interview with Punch.
Responding to a question of the alleged ‘impeachment plot’, Akanbi said: “That was a rumour. Right now, it does not seem feasible.
“The numbers are now close. We now have 53 against 49. That is not enough to sack anybody.
“Two-thirds would be needed to remove the leadership, but at the moment, neither APC nor the PDP has the required numbers.
“But with simple majority, whatever comes from the executive can scale through.”
Meanwhile, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has raised the alarm of over a fresh attempt to arrest Saraki, on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris in connivance with the presidency.
Recall that Frank last Wednesday wrote an open letter to the United Nations (UN) to report what he described as assault on the country’s lawmakers and opposition leaders.
Frank said he had reliable information that the IGP has ordered operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to raid Saraki’s residence and effect his arrest.
He described the plot as an act of desperation and utter wickedness, accusing the Presidency of being anxious to get back at Saraki over recent defections at the national assembly.
