The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all the 21 chairmanship and councillorship seats in the Anambra State Local Government election held on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The results were declared by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) on Sunday.
Chairman of the commission, Genevieve Osakwe, announced the results at the commission’s office in Awka, the state capital.
Osakwe said APGA won all 21 chairmanship positions, while its candidates also emerged winners in the councillorship elections across the 21 local government areas.
She said APGA fielded candidates across the 21 local government areas, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) fielded a candidate for the chairmanship election in Anambra East.
According to her, APGA secured victory in 20 local government areas through a “yes or no” voting pattern because it fielded sole candidates there.
In Anambra East, where YPP also fielded a candidate, APGA polled 50,169 votes against YPP’s 1,658 votes.
“I hereby declare the APGA candidates winners after polling the majority of the votes for all the positions”, Osakwe said.
She said the commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure there were no errors.
“All the candidates of APGA have been officially declared winners as councillors and executive council chairmen-elects”, Osakwe said
“The elections took place across 362 electoral wards and 21 local government areas (LGAs) in Anambra State, and conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, transparent and credible manner in line with the state electoral laws and guidelines”
The ANSIEC chair said the election was conducted at all polling units across the state and described the exercise as peaceful, free and fair.
She commended residents for turning out to exercise their civic rights and security agencies for maintaining peace during the election.
