Army adopts new approach against insecurity in Lagos, Ogun

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, at the weekend, said it has adopted new strategy in its operation to counter security challenges within the division’s area of responsibility.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division, Major-General Ebenezar Oyefolu announced the new strategy at the closing of a weeklong training for 100 officers of the division in a new approach to tackle insurgency.

He said the new strategy focused on maneuver approach to warfare, estimation process and contemporary operations. General Oyefolu said: “Based on the style the enemies are using to approach us now, we have to adopt strategic planning operations to counter them.

 “It is important for us, at all levels, to know how to plan operations in order to achieve the end result, which is to win the battle.  This is important in view of the current security challenges in our environment.”

The GOC commended the officers for their seriousness and participation during the sessions and urged them to teach others at their respective units what they learnt.

The training was aimed at improving the planning capability of commanders and staff officers within the division’s area of responsibility. The GOC, specifically, warned officers, who arrived the state for the exercise, to key into the security arrangement and report strange movements around them.

Oyefolu also revealed that the Nigerian Army is presently reorganizing in line with the threat perception confronting the country, and the requirement for effective performance of its role as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
