Assure Ndigbo of 2023 presidency – Senatorial aspirant tells Atiku, others

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Mr. Chinedu Eya has outlined conditions through which former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar could get the support of the Igbo in his quest to become Nigeria’s president.

Eya, a senatorial aspirant of the party for the Enugu North Senatorial Zone spoke to journalists in Enugu, stating that Ndigbo would not give support to anybody without extracting some measure of commitment.

He declared that time had gone when the South-East played blind politics that saw them losing out on the long run.

According to him, “we have taken note of all the aspirants interested in picking the PDP ticket for the presidential election in 2019.

“We are also taking note of the promises being made by these individuals, especially former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who has continued to assure Nigerians that he would restructure “While we note the issue of restructuring as one of ousupporting any of the aspirants, I must also state that such a person should also go ahead and made commitment to the Igbo on the 2023 presidency project.

“Any aspirant who is not ready to sign a pact with the Igbo based on the two key issues above- restructuring and Igbo presidency 2023, should not be supported in whatever manner. This is not a time for blanket support to any aspirant.

“We will only support an aspirant who is ready to do a single tenure and hand over to an Igbo man in 2023.

He stressed that Ndigbo had for long been relegated to the background and that such would not be allowed to go on.

Eya stressed that “we have very many quality and competent individuals in Igbo land who have all it takes to turn around the affairs of the country.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is one of such persons who should be considered when the time comes in 2023.”
