Recently, there have been optimistism held with possibility that the Federal Government towards reaching an agreement with the Accademic Staff of Universities (ASUU) to end the ongoing strike this week.
Following the nation wide ongoing strike and inability to reach an agreement with the striking lecturers, whereby
making the strike last longer that expected.
Other tertiary institutions, such as Polythecnic and College of Engineering are have also embared on their own strike, all agitating for increament to in their allowances.
However,the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu fielded questions from journalists after a press conference on illegal higher institutions on Friday, said there was a possibility of university lecturers ending their strike soon.
He said, “Perhaps, by next week, I hope the ASUU strike will be over.”
ASUU President Professor Biodun Ogunyemi had said his colleagues could only return to work after the union struck a deal with the government over its demands.
