Yesterday, it was a horror scene in Ekwulobia Aguata Anambra state of Nigeria when the inmates escaped from a Correctional Service Vehicle few minutes after an attack was launched on the official vehicle by unknown gunmen.

Newsmen Confirmed that the inmates whose identity are still unknown, “disappeared” after suspected gunmen attacked the correctional service official car.

The incident happened on their way to a court killing an arms squad personnel and a police woman by gunshots, while the driver and Officer-in-Charge were yet to be found till the time of this report.

The court escort was also wounded and is still unconscious,” he added.

The incident occurred at about mid day around Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, it was barely 24 hours after hoodlums attacked and killed some naval and police officers at three different checkpoints in the state and made away with their weapons.

9News Nigeria however gathered that some the officials and inmates in the vehicle ran for their lives.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Anambra State Prison Command, Francis Ekechukwu, expressed dismay over the attack.

Ekechukwu said the service had launched investigation into the incident to arrest the perpetrators.

Also, the spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, said investigation had begun with a view to arresting the hoodlums.

Tochukwu said: “It is very unfortunate, but police operatives swiftly responded and chased the hoodlums away.
