In a brief moment, my spirit was swiftly lighted up after receiving a message from the trailblazing legal luminary, Barrister Ike .C. Ibe acknowledging an audience with myself and other associates.
Seemingly, I had heard loads of stories and tales about the progressive advocate from my mother and a close friend, who emphasized on Barr. Ike’s philanthropy and unrivaled commitments towards boosting advancement and development in the Southeastern part of Nigeria.
A native of Imo state, just like I am, his numerous contributions to the growth of the state can never be overlooked or overemphasized.
From being a Speaker of the Imo State House of assembly in 1993 to being a Governorship aspirant in the 2023 general elections.
He was one of the youngest legislators of the 3rd Republic and probably one of the youngest ever elected in Nigeria.
An encounter with this progressive individual is a veritable case of humility and statesmanship.
While conversing with Barr Ike, it was evident that this man is more than the average politician. He is revered by many in his community, Ikenanzizi located in Obowo local government of Imo State.
He has always assisted the less privileged in the state by contributing to the pursuit of education and providing a means of sustainance.
According to him, building people is the foundation to credible institutions in Nigeria.
He further disclosed that he is more focused on taking Imo youths off the streets, reducing the crime rate and improving the quality of lives of the people.
“Focus on people first because in reality, the people are the foundation of credibility in our institutions”. He said.
He said his vision was to impact the life and environment of Imo citizens, emphasizing that this vision has nothing to do with elections and politicking generally.
This hit me to the point I started visualizing this statements, asking myself how a modern day politician could be so concerned and anxious about the welfare of others?
In conclusion, a discourse with Barr Ike .C. Ibe will continue to be a memorable one. I believe history will forever be kind to such a person.
