Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has approved a 41 – member committee to oversee the creation of new Emirates, Chiefdoms and Districts the state. This committee will evaluate submissions from interested communities based on equity, fairness, socio-political inclusiveness, and financial sustainability.
The committee’s objective is to strengthen traditional institutions, enhance local participation in governance, and preserve the state’s rich heritage.
The committee comprises diverse members, including traditional rulers, security agencies, and representatives from religious bodies and civil organizations.
Governor Mohammed administration has already made a notable move in this direction by approving the creation of Sayawa Chiefdom with its headquarters in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area. This decision was made after thorough consultations and studies of similar in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Kaduna States.
However, the Sayawa Chiefdom will operate independently of the Bauchi Emirate and will be led by a traditional ruler, the Gun Zaar, with a rotational succession system between two historic clans, San Gami and San Gishi.
