The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYCW, Thursday, announced plans to hold a South-East youth summit on referendum.
It could be recalled that the self-acclaimed President of the group, Barr. Benjamin Onwuka and over 15 others were arrested after they attempted to declare Biafra.
According to reports, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro-led OYCW
hinged the decision on the successful outcome of the sit-at-home observed on May 30 across the South-East and beyond.
In a statement signed by Comrade obinna Achuonye, the National Deputy President of the youth group, they said “the level of compliance by the people of South East should be a source of worry to all governments at all level, especially the Federal Government.
“Ndigbo, especially Igbo Youths have demonstrated that really the future of our land depends on them, especially now that the 2019 General election is nearby. We wish to call on Ndigbo to rush and register in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.”
The statement added that “in other to address the causes of the current Biafra agitation and ensure that the grievances of the Igbo Youths are properly addressed as well as considering the rejection of the just concluded restructuring summit at Awka, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has yielded to the pressure to organise a peaceful SOUTH EAST.
