A local government area in Yobe State, Geidam was attaked by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Friday.
According to local sources in the town who confirm the attack, the incident happened around 5PM, when Muslim faithful are preparing to break fast.
Yerwa Express News also confirm the attack, noting that, the armed group invaded the town with over 10 gun trucks while shooting sporadically and chanting ‘Allahu Akbar’.
A local government area, located at the North West of the state, Geidam is about 182.7 km from the state’s capital, Damaturu. However, this was not the first time the town was attacked by insurgency. It has come under several attacks and among the most hit locality by insurgency in Yobe state. In 2019 general election, it is among the local government areas that were excluded to conduct presidential elections due to security threats.
According to Daily Post, the police common in Yobe said troops of the Nigerian Air Force have deployed aircrafts to repel the attack. However, a source has said that the attack is still ongoing at the time of filling this report. He also added that, the terrorists are gathering people in mosques and preaching to them.
Also, there is yet any official statement from the Nigerian Army on the attack at the time of filling this report.
