Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has donated N50m to flood victims in Borno State.
He announced the donation during his sympathy visit to Maiduguri on Tuesday.
Accompanied by Labour Party deputy presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Ahmed Datti, Mr. Obi visited the state governor in government house as well as the Shehu of Borno at his palace.
This is in addition to several billions of naira granted to the state to cushion the effects of the flood disaster that ravaged some parts of the state’s capital, Maiduguri and Jere and Konduga local government areas of the state.
Similarly the acting PDP National Chairman, Umar Illiya Damagum, has donated the sum of N25 million to the Borno State Government to support victims of the disaster.
Another PDP cheiftaain in Borno State, Mohammed Imam has also donated N50 million to alleviate the suffering of the victims.
It can be recalled that this newspaper had reported earlier how Mr. Imam visited the Shehu of Borno and other affected areas in Maiduguri to sympathize with the flood victims.
He also donated some food and non-food materials worth’s millions of naira to the flood survivors.
Imam is a popular politician in Borno State who on several occasions contested for the governorship seat in the state under PDP.
These donations were however recieved by Borno State governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday.
Responding to these interventions, Gov. Zulum expressed gratitude to the donors.
Emphasizing the significant impact they will have on the relief efforts, he also promised to utilize the resources judiciously in providing essential aid, including food, shelter, and medical care, to those affected by the floods.
”This outpouring of support serves as a testament to the compassion and solidarity of Nigerian philanthropists and leaders,” Gov. Zulum said.
”As the affected communities begin the process of recovery and rebuilding, these contributions will undoubtedly play a vital role in their journey towards healing and restoration,” Zulum added.
With the latest developments, Borno government has recieved over N8bn in cash donations among other goods running into millions for victims of flood.
