The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Borno State Chapter, has congratulated El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri on winning the 2025/2026 President Federation Cup and has called on Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to reward the team generously.
In a statement on Sunday signed by the Chairman, Ibrahim Tukur, SWAN described the 1-0 victory over Ikorodu City FC of Lagos as a demonstration of the team’s resilience, commitment, technical brilliance and consistency.

“El-Kanemi Warriors’ hard-fought victory is a clear demonstration of resilience, commitment and technical brilliance which have continued to distinguish the club and Borno State as one of the leading football clubs in Nigeria,” the statement said.
El-Kanemi Warriors secured the title after Mukhtar Ismail converted a 19th-minute penalty.
It is the club’s fourth President Federation Cup triumph, having previously won in 1991, 1992 and 2024.
SWAN also congratulated the Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Poverty Alleviation, Comrade Saina Buba, for his leadership and support.

The association also applauded the technical crew, management, players and backroom staff for their dedication.
The Association commended the Borno State Government under Governor Zulum for its support towards sports development and youth engagement in the state.
“SWAN appeals to the government to reward the victorious team generously with enduring incentives that will further motivate the players and inspire future sporting excellence in the state,” Ibrahim Tukur said.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and promotion of football in Borno.
It also called for improved welfare packages, better sporting facilities, and sustained investment to enable the team to achieve greater success at national and continental levels.
