Borno, UNDP Organizes Workshop On Transitional Justice

The Borno State Government has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to host a three-day workshop on transitional justice.

The workshop, held in Maiduguri, aimed to foster reconciliation, accountability, and sustainable peace in communities affected by insurgency.

The participants, drawn from Bama, Dikwa, Gwoza, Kukawa, Mafa Local Government Areas of Borno and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) are members of the Peace Reconciliation and Monitoring Committee (PRM) in the state.

In his remarks during the event, the state commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman A. Tar, explained the purpose of the training and principles of the PRM committee.

Also speaking, the commissioner for justice, Barrister Hauwa Abubakar, who was represented at the event by Barrister Falmata Harun, emphasized the importance of prosecution and accountability in transitional justice.

The workshop featured sessions on the Borno Model, which emphasizes collaboration, victim support, and institutional reforms in achieving lasting peace.

Some of the resource persons that led the sessions include Prof. Mala Mustapha, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Ahmed and others.

Goodwill messages were delivered by the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi, and representatives of UNDP, UNICEF, and other international organizations.
