The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has confirmed in a statement, that about 900 repentant ex-Boko Haram terrorists have been registered by the commission, 9News Nigeria has learnt today.
The NIMC announced this on Monday 15th June 2020, saying that data of repentant and reintegrated ex Boko Haram terrorists were provided through the Operation Safe Corridor Advisory Committee.
The Director-General of NIMC, Aliyu Aziz, described the commission as a strategic partner in the effort at tackling the security challenges in the country.
According to information obtained from ThePunch, the Director-General was quoted in a statement issued by the commission in Abuja as saying:
“The commission has the capacity to support the Federal Government in the ongoing war against security challenges through its functional and world-class verification and authentication services residual in its modern and up-to-date database.”
Aziz said the commission had provided a credible platform to enrol and issue National Identification Number to repentant and reintegrated Boko Haram members, as well as verify their data as and when needed.
