MAIDUGURI—No fewer than four soldiers of Operation Lafiya Dole were feared dead, yesterday, with another senior officer and a driver, escaping unhurt when some Boko Haram insurgents ambushed the operational vehicle conveying food for troops along Mafa-Sasawa Military Base in Borno State.

Mafa is about 45 kilometre from Maiduguri, which has witnessed series of killings, bombings and destruction by insurgents in recent past.
A reliable source told Vanguard in Maiduguri that some elements of Boko Haram sect, on Saturday, laid ambush on the troops’ vehicle that routinely convey three square meals to military bases in Mafa Local Government Area around Sassawa village.
According to the source,“there was a heavy blow on troops in Mafa, weekend, as we witnessed deadly ambush by terrorists, which led to the killing of four soldiers.
“The remains of one of the deceased soldiers has been buried today in Maiduguri, while others are still in mortuary.”
