IMO: The Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Barr Kennedy Ibeh has called for the scraping of National Orientation Agency (NOA) Imo state chapter for lack of effective communication of government programs and policies in the state.

This call came on Tuesday September 24th, 2024 at a plenary of Imo State House of Assembly held in Owerri.

Barr Ibeh frowned at the insensitive of NOA Imo state for not communicating the unwavering projects, programs and policies of Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration.

Barr Ibeh hinted that some agencies of government are due for either scrapping or merger to the parent ministry to cut humongous cost of management and maintenance of its officers.

The lawmaker was against the bill moved by the IMHA to urge the Governor His Excellency Hope Uzodinma to mandate the state Ministry of information, to urgently revive the state orientation agency and put it to use immediately for proper information dissemination of the 3R activities and other issues of positive impact to the citizens.

Though his points of argument was obvious but his nay voice was not adopted rather the majority members of the IMHA at the hallow chamber voted in favour of the motion thereby throwing his view to the cupboard.

Imolites who spoke with 9News Nigeria shortly after the plenary frowned at the non compliance of Kennedy Ibeh’s view by the Honourable members while calling on governor Hope Uzodinma to look inward and address this matter headon to save the situation Imo people were subdued by NOA and its government appointees.

Ibeh added that NOA is saddled with the huge responsibility of sensitizing the generality of Imolites the programs , activities and policies of government but regretted their inefficiency of service delivery.

He therefore Call for sack of NOA state officers, government appointees in that agency and scrap in whole and entire the Imo National Orientation Agency.

The Motion urging the state ministry of information to urgently revive and put to appropriate use the state orientation agency is good but a wasted cost to the shared Prosperity administration.

The Bill was Chiefly sponsored by Hon Uba James Ihezue and co sponsored by six (6) other Honourable members-
Ikenna Ihezuo, Ozioma, Chisom Ojukwu, Clinton Amadi, Samuel Osuji and Kennedy Ibeh respectively.

NOA is a state apparatus saddled with the responsibility of information circulation and dissemination of Governor Uzodinma’s 3R activities in both the State and in diaspora including state programs and policies, Human capital development and Proper orientation.

The lawmaker finally called the awakening of NOA to rise up to their responsibilities and to increasing awareness and values of government programs across boards, LGAs, wards and the rural communities.

Other Honourable members added that NOA have to communicate effectively to the citizenry breaking developments in the state.

The members also warned to carry along the social media and other news broadcasting outlets along to circulate cum disseminate information efficiently to the grassroots.

It however behoves on this important agency (NOA) to wake up and do their job effectively and efficiently to propagate the policies of government.

There is no doubt that the motion means well for the state but it is a firing a shot at the feet saying that NOA is not circulating information as ought to. It is because the ministry of information is not living up to expectation of guiding the NOA properly.

There is no need for further appointment of SA or SSA or DG orientation since the ministry of information is not scrapped, information departments or desk offices across the LGAs should also be charge to work to corroborate the legal responsibility of NOA.

In finality, the reorientation of Imo citizens cut across all fares of life , in areas of drug abuse, civic responsibility etc which will create a positive impact to Imolites mostly the Youths.

The IMHA rose with the maximum support of this bill chiefly sponsored by Hon Uba James Esile against the opposing voice lend by Rt Hon Kennedy Ibeh to quash Imo NOA and assign information ministry to carry along the NOA functions.
