BREAKING: David Mark Loses Son

9news Nigeria reports that Jonathan Tunde Mark, the first son of former President of the Nigerian Senate, David Mark is dead. A report viewed by 9news Nigeria says Tunde David Mark died in the United Kingdom (UK) after a protracted battle with unknown ailment.

Another account said the 51-year-old David Mark first son died of cancer. The report added that Tunde David Mark corpse is expected to be flown back to the country in the coming days for burial.

It was gathered that sympathisers have thronged the GRA Otukpo residence of the Okpokpowulu K’Idoma to condole with the family on the Denise of their son.

The deceased was born on the 13th of October 1971 in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. He attended Yaba Military School which is located in Yaba, Lagos State, where he obtained his first school leaving certificate. Tunde Mark later proceeded to Fernden Prep School, Haslemere, Surrey, in the UK where he attended Secondary school. Tunde was a Biochemist who obtained a B.Sc degree from Kings College, London. He studied immunology alongside biochemistry and later Biological Sciences at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Harvard, and Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was married to the daughter of a Chinese senator and blessed with a daughter.

His father, Senator David Mark is a former military governor of Niger State. Appointed in 1984 by the then Head of State and current Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari.

After the administration of Buhari was toppled in a palace coup, Mark was then appointed Minister of Communication by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. He was forced to flee the country in 1993 by the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha. Mark, however, returned to the country in 1998 and contested the senate seat for Benue South Senatorial District in 1999 which he won. He was reelected in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015 and retired in 2019.

It can be recalled that David Mark was elected Senate President in 2007 and 2011 and to this day remains, Nigeria’s longest Senate President.

His daughter, Blessing Onuh is the current member representing the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
